Coogee bay history

A postcard from the past

Sydney’s history comes alive at Coogee Bay Hotel. The ‘grand old dame by the sea’ started out in 1859 as a homestead, then a school and finally found her true calling as a seaside retreat in 1873.
The young city’s elite came to Coogee to relax and enjoy the fresh sea air, and Coogee Bay Hotel had pride of place on the new resort’s seafront. Today, the dame still retains strong elements of her historical grandeur: Victorian period influences, cedar staircases, long street-side verandahs and intricate wooden finishing. Heritage spaces have been lovingly restored and provide a glimpse of a bygone age, alongside all the 21st century comforts and facilities of a modern hotel. Despite many structural changes along the way, Coogee Bay Hotel remains a stunning example of early Australian beachside resort architecture.
Coogee Bay Hotel is now owned by C.inc, a family-run property group dedicated to retaining those valuable links to the past, ensuring that Coogee Bay Hotel will continue as a beloved Sydney landmark for generations to come.
