A Heart & Hub for the Community
“We believe embracing hospitality goes far beyond operating great venues, resorts or services – it also means being a good neighbour. We’re not just there for the good times; we want to be of use in other ways, too.
Coogee is blessed with a great many excellent altruistic organisations, and we consider very carefully which ones to work with. The charity partners we choose share one crucial attribute: amazing people, committed to a life of service to others.
One of the most useful assets a hospitality operator can offer for good causes is of course our space itself. We make sure to open our doors across the year to local groups and organisations to meet, fundraise, promote and celebrate. As an hotelier, I see this as hospitality in its truest sense: providing a hub and heart for the community I’m proud to call home.”

To celebrate the success of our Coogee Bay Hotel Annual Golf Day, we wanted to recognise and thank our Platinum and Gold Sponsors and members who has been part of the Coogee Bay Hotel Annual Golf Day to help enable us to achieve our goals supporting the Sydney Children’s Hospital for the past 19 years by hosting a day of golf at the prestigious Australian Golf Course.
It is through their support and generosity that we could assist the Sydney Children’s Hospital in remaining at the forefront of paediatric medicine both in Australia and beyond, and to benefit the lives of their inspiring young patients.
Saturday July 23rd 2016 raised over $36,000
Following the devastating Sydney storms in June, Coogee’s Surf Life Saving Club suffered severe damage to the ground level of the building, with waves crashing right through one wall and totalling the gym and events equipment housed inside. Together with club representatives, the Coogee Bay Hotel rallied the local business community together and held a fundraising dinner that included a 3 course meal, drinks, guest speakers, comedian Sam K and wrapped up with a performance by the Wildcatz.
Coogee Bay Hotel leveraged great relationships with Food & Beverage suppliers to see that all produce, Wine & Beer was donated to the cause, plus covered staffing and entertainment costs for the night to ensure every dollar raised went straight into rebuilding the club.
Friday May 20th 2016 raised over 14,000
When Mal Ward found out that his son, Johnno, was seriously ill with childhood liver disease, he made a decision: rather than sit around feeling sorry for himself, he would start fundraising for the very people that were trying to keep his boy and others alive.
Unfortunately Johnno lost his battle in 2008, but that hasn’t stopped Mal from continuing to dedicate himself to helping sick children through his Forever Johnno charity, which organisers a fundraiser in May and a Christmas present drive in December each year.
On Friday May 20th 2016 we held the Forever Johnno Monster Raffle Event in our Sports Bar and raised over $14,000 for the charity.
